Walk the Beat – Albion!

Albion, Michigan, August 24, 2017 – For its second year, Walk the Beat is happening in Albion on Saturday, October 21, 2017. This FREE event is from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. Walk the Beat Raffle Tickets are now on sale for $10 and can be purchased at numerous locations including The Bohm Theatre.

Walk the Beat is an organization dedicated to providing musical opportunity and education to the community, primarily the youth. We do this by donating musical instruments, arranging music lessons, and sponsoring events. This annual “Walk the Beat” fundraiser in Albion is produced by Cliff Harris and helps us raise money and bring people together. “Walk the Beat – Albion is a free, public, 2-pronged event for those who like live music and prizes. The first WTB was in Grand Haven, and Albion is only the 2nd location for this music festival. Our generous sponsors allow us to hold a Raffle, which allows us to support local kids and their interest in music and literacy” said Harris. It will take place at 23 different Albion locations hosting local bands/soloists throughout the day and will also include a performance by The War and Treaty.

Walk the Beat Raffle tickets can be purchased at The Bohm Theatre, Albion Insurance Company, Parks Drug Store, Ismon House, Blue Ox, Dickerson Music Company and Team 1 Plastics. Each raffle ticket purchased will enter you in for a chance to win the $5,000 Grand Prize Raffle. Door prizes will also be available to win at various locations. 400 tickets have already been sold! The raffle will be held at the Bohm Theatre from 7:00 – 7:30 PM.

Artwork on Display at the Davis Gallery in the Bohm Theatre

Albion, Michigan, August 18, 2017 – Local artwork by Jerome Washington is now on display at the Davis Gallery in the Bohm Theatre. Donations toward the gallery in Bohm II were generously given by R. Bud and Olivia Davis. Executive Director Nancy Doyal said, “We have a really nice long hallway in Bohm II and it has always been my intention to highlight local talent”.

Warner Ball, an Albion College graduate, is helping Nancy coordinate the wall space. An artist himself, Warner currently lives in Marshall where he co-manages and curates exhibit its for EastEnd Studio & Gallery, a nonprofit art gallery.

Jerome’s graphite drawings capture the essence of live subjects he meets in and around Albion. He is a native of Albion and 1971 graduate of Albion Hight School. In addition to serving in the U.S. Navy, Jerome has studied art, Bible and music. He has a way of capturing people’s best side through his artwork and he has been a commissioned artist for Albion District Library, Kids n’ stuff, Marshall District Library, City of Albion, Jackson Public Schools and Right to Life of Michigan. Jerome travels throughout the Midwest region to do his artwork, creates exhibit portraits in schools, libraries, museums and festivals, and customizes greeting cards. About his art, he says, “I enjoy drawing people in particular, especially children because it helps them to focus on the positive part of their lives instead of the negative, it brings a little sunshine in people’s lives when I draw them”. His seven pieces will be on display in the Davis Gallery for a few months until another local artist will be highlighted.

Harper & Midwest Kind to Perform in August Blues at the Bohm

Albion, Michigan, August 1, 2017 – The next Blues at the Bohm will be on August 7, 2017 from 7 to 10 PM. Our feature band this month will be Harper and Midwest Kind. Admission is only $5. Concessions and food from Gina’s Pizza and Deli will be available for purchase.

Joining us on our historic stage again will be multi-award winning Australian singer/songwriter Peter D. Harper and the Detroit based band Midwest Kind. Harper possesses a powerful soulful voice and a deep, almost mystical approach to music that some might say has evolved into its own genre. Harper calls it “World Blues” — a rich musical stew of ‘50s rhythm and blues, a ‘60s message of love and unity, and ‘70s funky soul, stirred up with masterful, virtuoso harmonica and the deep, woody, percussive tones of the didgeridoo, served up in a feast of timeless mystery.

During construction on Superior Street there is plenty of well lit parking in the back of the Bohm Theatre. Once parked there, it is easy to get to the entrance of the theatre by walking through the bank drive through.

Success at the Bohm II

Albion, Michigan – Since opening in late January 2017, the Bohm II has shown Oscar nominated films such as LA LA LAND and MANCHESTER BY THE SEA and I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO in addition to Oscar nominated Animated and Live Action shorts. In just four weeks, the Bohm Theatre’s second screen has drawn in over 470 people.

Having an additional screen is allowing the Bohm to present more film product and not miss opportunities to show major blockbuster films. This March we will be screening a few highly anticipated films including LOGAN, KONG: SKULL ISLAND and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

Like the Historic Bohm, the Bohm II screening room is available to rent for speaking engagements and private events during the mid-week. This summer we are preparing to host a two day workshop targeting high school aged students that will teach the history of race relations in film. These are just a few of the things that will be happening at the Bohm II.

In addition to this second screen expansion, we have also added another live musical event each month called Singer-Songwriter Open Mic at the Bohm. Every Monday following Blues at the Bohm we will host a forum for both emerging talent and professional musicians to try new material, or improve their performance skills with an enthusiastic audience. More information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/openmicatthebohm/

We’re looking forward to more films, events and opportunities here at the Bohm and BohmII!

McCray’s albums have been well received by both the U.S. and European press and he was honored as the Orville Gibson 2000 Male Blues Guitarist of the Year.

Take the raw talent, the feel, the heart, the soul, the drive, and the sophistication of the music from Stevie Ray Vaughn, BB King, Joe Bonamassa, Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson and Albert King, the result is Jacob Kershaw. Joined with Terry Oosterhart on bass and Ryan McFadden on drums, the Jake Kershaw band will give an unforgettable performance!
